Weekly Tips
* Although test strips such as TS 200 are necessary, a refractometer (CTX -2) is the most accurate tool in the industry for checking the freeze point of all antifreezes and coolants regardless of color.. Using the CTX-2 (a refractometer) is the only way to check the glycol % and freeze point in extended life antifreezes (Red and Orange)
* Coolant at a 50/50 mix reads -34 freeze point and 50%. This gives the maximum freeze and boil point range of protection -34 to 226 F. Pressure is also used to increase the boiling point.
* 100% antifreeze will freeze at -5 degrees and won't boil until almost 325 degrees. Antifreeze at 100% will act as an insulator raising the temperatures in the engine (hot spots). The Inhibitors get used up faster the higher the heat. This can lead to faster corrosion, drop out, plugging, scale and seal problems. Higher heats affect oil temperatures, and transmission oil temperatures as well.
* TS 200 is the only test strip that gives a pass or fail contamination reading on the Red ELC (International, Cummins, Cat ELC). It does not work with other ELC coolants Orange or Yellow. This test strip also works with your conventional coolants to show % and nitrite parts per million. 1200 is ideal
* If a system is corroded or is building heat use Penray 2001 online cleaner for 30-45 days. This will clean the system, then flush and start over with good antifreeze, Penray Pencool 30000, NF 3000 filters or spin on a Need-Release NF2088 for one year of chemistry maintenance. The 2001 is an on-line cleaner meaning that you don't have to shut down the truck or take it off line to work. Follow the directions and keep working until the system is clean.
